In many ads today women are viewed as sex symbols. They are usually in the center of an ad, depending on what company is advertising. And of course, they are usually dressed very provocatively with minimal or no clothes at all. This ad from Dolce & Gabbana has a girl in the middle who might depict as Queen Elizabeth and men surrounding her. The men to the right are glued to the naked queen in the middle, while the ones on the left are entertainment. These men almost look like servants for the woman. You can also notice that she is not wearing any clothes except a pair of leather knee high boots, her hair is up, and her left arm is covering her breasts as her right arm crowns one of the men. Women nowadays are a symbol of power, sex, and glamour.
Here is another ad for Alexander McQueen that exudes power. There is a fish tank to the left with a man in his underwear, while the woman is sitting on a chair with a McQueen gown on. Again, not only are women viewed as sex symbols, but in the fashion world they are pictured as powerful couture icons. Little girls nowadays won't just see ads of sexy women but also of very edgy and chic ads of women in couture. Compared to the ads of the 60s where women were viewed as a vessel for children, a caretaker for the home, and a stepping stone for the husband, the ads of today show women in a wide variety of images. There has been a lot of changes from the past to today but also there are still some very similar things. Women are still viewed as sex symbols but to the point where it isn't the only thing we see. This goes for men in advertising as well, they are shown to be very sexy so that it appeals more to women.
